Our History

Founded by a group of Italian-Australian migrants, Leichhardt FC was born from a shared desire to celebrate their cultural heritage and pursue their love for football. Following persistent efforts, our founding committee secured approval from the FNQ Soccer Federation to join the local competition. In 1976, the inaugural Leichhardt teams, with an average age of 40, entered both the Reserve Grade and Men's Premier Division.

The first season yielded mixed results for the Men's Premier team, while the Reserve grade team left a mark by winning the Reserve Grade Premiership and Grand Final. In 1977, a significant influx of young talent from Stratford and Edge Hill injected fresh energy into the club. With newfound youth and confidence, the Leichhardt Premier Men's team triumphed in the local FA Cup competition, defeating Stratford 3-2, followed by our very first Premier Men's Grand Final victory, again defeating Stratford 3-0.

The rest, as they say, is history...
